Company Overview

Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) is Wisconsin's only 4-year independent, coed, professional art and design college. We offer a BFA in eleven majors, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD) and North Central Association (NCA).

A core strength of MIAD’s programming is the connection between curricular and extracurricular experiences that students and faculty alike share. Team-teaching, interdivisional curricular planning and review, co-sponsorship of visiting artists, designers, and scholars, cross divisional teaching workshops, and foreign study opportunities that blend the Liberal Studies and Studio demonstrate MIAD’s unique approach to stretch and achieve new definitions of creativity.

MIAD's campus is located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward in an eclectic mix of renovated warehouses, artists’ lofts, theaters, businesses, shops, and restaurants. It is a vital part of an area of the city that has become a destination for both tourists and residents who enjoy the Third Ward’s distinct and unique urban flavor. The college benefits from the region's newfound prosperity while proving to be a valuable asset to this thriving arts community.

Milwaukee is large enough to provide numerous urban advantages and cultural opportunities, yet small enough to retain the ease and feelings of a hometown.

Milwaukee is home to world-class museums such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, which features an addition designed by the celebrated international architect Santiago Calatrava.

Nightlife offers all of the diversity one would expect from larger cities: World-class restaurants, ballet, theatre, opera, a nationally acclaimed orchestra and no less than four theaters dedicated to screening independent film provide endless opportunities for cultural enrichment and entertainment.
